My scientific and clinical interest centers around brain machine interface and neuromodulation. Building on my foundation in electrical engineering and physiology, I have studied the voluntary control of movement to understand the role of the primary motor cortex in movement.

The Johnson research laboratory focuses on innovating neuromodulation technologies to improve quality of life for people with neurological disorders. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is one such technology, which has helped numerous people living with Parkinson's disease reclaim control over their motor function. We focus on understanding how the brain responds and adapts to stimulation-based therapies from a combination of computational and experimental perspectives.

Dr. Greg Molnar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Minnesota. Previously he was the Director of Neuromodulation Research at Medtronic Inc. and led the global research team and studies to advance neuromodulation therapies for Pain, Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, and GastroUro function. Dr. Molnar has much experience with translating science into medical devices therapies and has numerous patents in this space.
